Grand Canyon is by far the most popular tourist destination in Arizona! The beautiful landscape of colorful layered rock, ponderosa pine and views of the Colorado river spans 18 miles wide, 277 miles long and a mile deep. It takes only 1 1/2 hours to drive to the South Rim from Rain Valley Ranch, making it a wonderful day trip.

Over 900 years ago, volcanic activity formed Flagstaff and the surrounding areas. Located 20 minutes from Rain Valley Ranch is Sunset Crater and the start of the Lava Trail. Hike the lava flow trail and cinder fields and explore how the area was created.
LOWELL OBSERVATORY

Lowell Observatory is among the oldest observatories in the US and gives tours of the cosmos both day and at night. The flagship of the Observatory is the $53 million Discovery Channel Telescope. Flagstaff became the first "International Dark Sky", making it an optimal place to view our galaxy.

HUMPHRIES PEAK

distance: 12 miles

Arizona Highpoint is a 9.6 mile out and back trail located near Flagstaff, Arizona that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as difficult. Accessible from June until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

PICTURE CANYON

distance: 0 miles

Take your horse on a trail ride or hike. Directly adjacent to the Flagstaff home rental. Dogs can be off leash. Hike to the falls in about 1.5 miles and see pictographs on the rocks along the way.

METEOR CRATER

distance: 32 miles

Located just east of Flagstaff, it is the world's best preserved meteor impact site. Take a day trip and view the giant hole made by the meteor.

MOUNT ELDEN

distance: 15 miles

Mount Elden is part of the San Francisco Peaks volcanic system. The crest of the mountain is 9300 feet above sea level. The mountain is easy to spot because the south and southeastern slopes lack vegetation due to the Radio fire that was set in 1977.
